  • Drastic temperature changes (from the refrigerator to the hot oven) may cause cracking. Room temperature to cool oven is best. Allow pottery to cool before placing in refrigerator or dishwasher.
  • Do not broil or place on a stovetop burner. Do not store in freezer.
  • Pottery can scratch furniture & cause water stains if placed directly on furniture surface. Use cork tabs or felt on the base of the pottery and/or a trivet or tablecloth to protect furniture.
  • Do not leave pottery outdoors in winter – temperature fluctuations can crack pottery.
  • Low quality cutlery can mark pottery; remove marks with a kitchen abrasive, like Bar Keeper’s Friend. High quality steel cutlery will not mark the pottery.
  • Handcrafted pottery has slight variations in size, color & design, characteristics to be expected and treasured in handcrafted art.
  • And yes, pottery will break if dropped!

Very hard to hold on to. Overall disappointed in the style of the artwork. I have many old pieces and I don't like the new stuff as well.

  1. I liked this mug because at 12.50 it is an excellent value and it is a safe product to use. However, I am deducting two stars because I feel it is somehow not ergonomically designed well: it hurts my hand somewhat to pick up the mug (it is uncomfortable at the handle) and also there is the issue of the lip of the cup creating a constant drip of whatever I am drinking running down the side of the cup.

    • Hi Janis – we’re sorry to hear you’re less than thrilled with the Classic Mug and thank you for your detailed review. Keep in mind we make several mug shapes with different sized handles and mouth shapes!

    • Hi Rhonda. Thank you for your review. We’re sorry to hear you’re disappointed in your new pottery! We’ve changed our pottery over the years for a few reasons. The pitcher you have pictured on the right is earthenware, which is not as durable as our new stoneware pottery. We have switched to stoneware to ensure your products are more durable and last for years and years. The designs change over the years as our decorators come and go — Your feedback is very helpful to us as we think about new designs. Thank you!

We believe pottery should bring people together at the dinner table. That’s why we never cut corners when it comes to safety. Too often, companies in the industry still use lead or cadmium in their glazes to make colors brighter. Not Us! Our American-made pottery is crafted to be just as safe as it is beautiful.

For over 45 years, we’ve crafted our ceramics with natural clays, paints, and glazes developed and made in house and free from added lead and cadmium. Every piece is made to meet California Prop 65 standards, and we go the extra mile with testing so you can use our pottery with complete peace of mind.

Our customers tell us how much they appreciate that commitment. Whether they’re serving meals to family and friends or choosing a dog bowl, we’re proud to make pottery they can trust.

Lead-safe is just one part of our larger mission toward sustainability.
