POTTERY MARKS

What is a pottery mark?  It identifies the maker of the pottery and year made.  Traditionally it is stamped on the bottom of a pottery form or pressed  into the clay body of the piece before glazing.  Emerson Creek Pottery’s early mark was symbolic of a creek – Emerson Creek located in New England.   The stamp was pressed into the side of each form and the name & date were handwritten on the base.   Now we stamp the base of a form with our mark which includes logo, year made, location:  Bedford VA or MADE IN THE USA and artist’s mark.  The logo features an Iris – our oldest design.
