POTTERY MARKS
What is a pottery mark? It identifies the maker of the pottery and year made. Traditionally it is stamped on the bottom of a pottery form or pressed into the clay body of the piece before glazing. Emerson Creek Pottery’s early mark was symbolic of a creek – Emerson Creek located in New England. The stamp was pressed into the side of each form and the name & date were handwritten on the base. Now we stamp the base of a form with our mark which includes logo, year made, location: Bedford VA or MADE IN THE USA and artist’s mark. The logo features an Iris – our oldest design.
