Hot Mulled Apple Cider

Nothing quite warms you up and brings cheer to your heart like a mug of delicious Hot Mulled Apple Cider made with fresh apples, cranberries, and oranges with hints of spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. This recipe is so tasty, it’s hard to believe it’s so simple to make. Not only does it taste good, the aroma of our Hot Mulled Apple Cider can fill your home with delight! It’s perfect for any winter gathering and it pairs deliciously with Shortbread Cookies, too!

Cinnamon cider and shortbread with apples and orange cloves.

Ingredients

  • 6-8 medium apples
  • 1 orange/2 clementines 
  • 1/4 cup cranberries
  • 3-4 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 whole cloves 
  • 2 anise stars
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg powder 
  • 1/3-1/2 cup honey
  • 10-12 cups water

Enjoy this hot mulled apple cider in one of our tall Latte Mugs or your favorite mug.

Directions

  1. Thoroughly wash the apples. Remove the cores and cut the apples into quarters.
  2. Wash and slice the oranges (no need to peel the skin).
  3. Wash cranberries and cut each in half.
  4. Add the apples, oranges and cranberries to a large pot with lid. 
  5. Add spices on the fruit and drizzle the top with honey. Then, pour 10-12 cups of water in the pot – covering your fruit and leaving at least an inch or two of space at the top of the pot.
  6. Bring mixture to a boil. Then, reduce the heat to low and cover. Let it simmer for at least 1 hour.
  7. Using a potato masher, mash all of the ingredients to release more of their flavors. Then cover and let the cider simmer for another 30 minutes.
  8. Strain your cider through a fine mesh strainer or through a cheesecloth into a ceramic pitcher. Squeeze out as much juice as you can.
  9. Serve hot in mugs with a few fresh orange and apple slices, cranberries, cinnamon sticks and star anise for a beautiful finish.

    I’m wanting to make your Mulled Apple Cider and had a question about the “1 orange/2 clementine” listing. I’m thinking it’s 1 orange OR 2 clementines—r, is it 1 Orange AND 2 clementines? Thought I would check first, thanks so much for your help!
